I've been enjoying model horses and also real ones ever since I was a
little kid. The fun part about doing models is that you can create your ultimate animal. You can make any breed of horse
or animal that you
want and paint it the ideal color you've always dreamed of. There is
a lot to be said about letting an imagination run completely wild!
I started collecting models when I was very little. I think the
first model I received was a Christmas present when I was very small.
Ever since then I've been hooked on them. When I was around 10 or 11 years old I
stopped collecting. My desire didn't fade, but schooling and tight funds
wouldn't let me spend any excess on collectibles. It was many years later after high school when my model
lineup started growing again. I
discovered that people were customizing and showing these wonderful little
critters.
I had to know more about the
customizing process, so I basically flung myself into the mix and tried to learn
as much about this wacky hobby as possible. The first show that I attended
was held in Eugene, OR. at Susan
Hooton's "Emerald Valley Live" in 1999. The competition at that show was incredibly stiff.
I learned a lot that day - not to mention
getting my eyes wide open to what was out there.
A lot of collectors
at that first show helped to get me started and pointed out what I needed to work
on. That's one of the greatest things about this hobby - people are honestly willing to help you! I made some
wonderful new friends at that show, and it will remain one of the greatest
highlights in my memory.I am extremely fortunate to be involved in an
artistic career that is enjoyable for me on an everyday basis. I strive to make my models look as realistic as
possible, and they have been NAN qualifying for customers at live shows across the country.
The hard work eventually
pays off. Hope you stick around and
see what creations are in store for the future! =:) -Shannon.
